This historic DC suburb in the Southeast quadrant of the city is home to two unique museums, the Anacostia Community Museum and abolitionist Frederick Douglass’s home, Cedar Hill.  Although development is being ambitiously planned for this neighborhood, it is still quite a dangerous area.  Visitors should avoid exploring beyond the marked historic sites and take taxis or authorized tourist buses rather than public transportation.

The last home of escaped slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass has recently been restored and converted into a museum celebrating the man and his achievements. The house can only be viewed while on a Ranger-led tour. More...
