New York City Attractions
New York is certainly not all work and no play. Its inhabitants love jogging, cycling, boating, kayaking, ice-skating and more in the great outdoors. Chelsea Piers, a sports-and-entertainment complex along the Hudson River, offers every kind of sports activity including golf, roller skating, rock climbing, swimming, bowling, gymnastics, basketball and more. New York’s spectator sports include the Giants (NFL), Jets (NFL), Knicks (NBA), Mets (MLB), Yankees (MBL) and Islanders (NHL). As expected, the city’s fans are fierce!
Artists are a huge part of New York city life. Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat resided in the Big Apple, as do countless other artists today. Manhattan is chock-a-block with museums — within just one 30-block area, there are 9 world-class institutions. With museums such as Metropolitan Museum of Art (more than 2 million works of art spanning 5,000 years), Museum of Modern Art (home of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden) and American Museum of Natural History (dinosaurs!) visitors can “ooh” and “aah” for days. Literally. Other don’t-miss museums include the Guggenheim (Frank Lloyd Wright’s landmark museum) and the Rose Center for Earth & Space (Big Bang show!). Gallery hopping is also a favorite pastime for locals and vistors alike. Mega-galleries like Barbara Gladstone and Gagosian exhibit art stars like Jeff Koons and Matthew Barney. Lesser-known artists can be unearthed at Chelsea’s Clementine and Jack Shainman galleries. Any way you slice it, New York is the place to come face to face with a Da Vinci, T-rex or street-side artist. All walks of life are welcome here. |
