Sure, in the past, Jackson Square was used for executions and many a violent act was committed there, but not anymore, and definitely not in December. In fact, Christmas in New Orleans can be particularly warm (and we’re not just talking about the weather). In mid-December, carolers line up all around Jackson square (they’ve been doing it for the past 63 years). Surrounded by candlelight, they sing out in a chorus that is absolutely in tune with the season of giving and good cheer. Plus, it’s free. If it’s somewhat cool outside: you can’t beat a near-Christmas day with family, listening and singing carols (candles and song-sheets are provided by the Patio Planters of the Vieux Carre), and then grabbing a coffee and beignet at Café Du Monde.
