Coconut Grove

“Groovy” and “quirky” are words that best describe the bayside community of Coconut Grove. The Grove is bar-none the most bohemian neighborhood in all of Miami and home to the annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival.

CocoWalk offers shopping, restaurants, and movies for both locals and out-of-towners. The Grove also hosts the best Organic Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What Miami Locals Love to do in the Grove:

Sunday Brunch at Le Bouchon. Enjoy complimentary Mimosas and flirtatious Frenchmen! Oh yeah, and the food's not bad either. 3430 Main Hwy.

Rent a kayak at Shake-A-Leg, a Miami favorite, and take a tour of Biscayne Bay. They also rent sailboats, offer guided tours, are kid-friendly, and are equipped for handicapped customers. 2620 S. Bayshore Dr., www.shakealegmiami.org.

Watch out for the peacocks! While some residents may be tired of the pesky birds and the mess they leave behind, their illustrious feathers and striking appearance really are a unique addition to the quirky neighborhood and quite a beautiful site. The problems with the birds have garnered national news coverage this past year, so enjoy them while you can.

Have dinner high atop hotel Sonesta at aptly-named Peruvian restaurant, Panorama. The food is decent, but it's the incredible view of Biscayne Bay from here that will have you lingering over your meal.

Truly one of the best kept secrets for locals, the homemade lemonade from A.C. Icee's lemonade truck parked in front of Kenney Park is an authentic Grove experience. Allen Cohen has been serving the fresh juices from his truck for over thirty years now, and judging by the long lines and 10 or 15 minute (minimum!) wait for the drinks on the weekends, it's not hard to understand why the Grove won't let him go. Kennedy Park, 2400 S. Bayshore Dr.

If ice cream is more your thing, taste the delicious Italian ice cream at Dolce Vita Gelato Cafe. The outdoor seating is perfect for Grove people-watching, and to give your taste buds an even more authentic Miami treat, sample the Dulce de Leche flavor--it's addictive. 3462 Main Hwy.
