Explore Boston

Boston’s many neighborhoods tumble over one another, each with its own character. In the heart of the city are Downtown, the West End, North End, and Chinatown. The fashionable streets of Beacon Hill, Bay Village, Back Bay, and the South End are all easily walkable from the Common, too. Charlestown, East Boston, and South Boston comprise the larger Waterfront neighborhood.  The big student neighborhoods (on the Boston side of the Charles) are Fenway and Kenmore alongside Allston and Brighton and more refined Brookline. Cross the Charles to Cambridge and Somerville. Finally, if you head southwest from Downtown you’ll pass through the mainly residential areas of Roxbury, Jamaica Plain (J.P.), and eventually into Dorchester, West Roxbury, and Hyde Park.
