Athens Greece Basics

Athens is not only the capital of Greece, but it is also the base for all destinations in Greece. The majority of  visitors will stay in Athens before and after they take a trip or cruise to the beautiful Greek islands. The city is full of possibilities, catering to all tastes, interests, and cultures. You can take a walk through history by visiting Plaka, Thission, Ancient Agora, or Syntagma Square. A short distance away is the Monastiraki Flee Market which has the largest variety of  souvenirs at the best prices.



Cafes are everywhere in Athens, but the best place is at the Lycabettus Hill, which offers an amazing panoramic view of the city.

When to go to Athens

Athens is an all-year-round city. You will always find things to see and do in Athens regardless of the time of year. In regards to prices, the high season is around the beginning of April through the end of June and again at the beginning of September through October/November.



How to get to Athens

The easiest way to Athens is by airplane. The international airport is located at the district of Spata, which is about 27 kilometers from Athens.
